
Evan A. Smith, almost 98, passed away March 19. He was born in Hilton, N.Y. and was raised on his family farm. He was married for 71 years to Mary M. (Kohlmeier) Smith, who survives him. Evan served in the U.S Army for almost 5 years during WWII. He was a Staff Seargent and served in the Pacific Theater as a Medic. He returned to the U.S. and studied Horology at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. He was a Certified Watchmaker and owned and operated a jewelry and watch repair store in Rochester, N.Y. for 30+ years. He and his wife moved to Indianapolis to be close to their daughter, Patricia (Smith) Tollini, and their grandson, Michael Tollini (wife Erin). Evan is also survived by his son, Ron Smith (wife Josi) and son-in-law, Robert Tollini, two great granddaughters, Sophie and Eva Tollini, and several nephews and nieces.
Evan was an expert handyman and also carved many different and beautiful birds from wood and gave them to his friends and relatives. He was very interested in genealogy and could trace his ancestors back to his cousin, Winston Churchill.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 23rd at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity on North Lantern Road in Indianapolis. Visitation is at 10:00 a.m. and the service is at 11:00 a.m. Friends may sign his online guest book at www.indianafuneralcare.com.
